The Top 5 Hummingbird Bird Baths Reviewed

1. Nova Microdermabrasion 3-Tier Fountain – Best Overall

Nova Microdermabrasion 3-Tier Pedestal Bird Bath Fountain W/Pump Outdoor Garden Decor

This 3-tier fountain by Nova is undoubtedly a popular choice among birders as it provides a premium look-and-feel to it that’s economically priced. After all, what’s better than a product that’s elaborate, durable, functional, and cost-effective too?

With its auditory and visual beauty, the Nova Microdermabrasion 3-Tier Fountain will surely catch your sight. It features an antique design that is sure to give your backyard those classic Victorian Era vibes.

The standout feature of this hummingbird water fountain is that it has three tiers, which means there's plenty of space for your tiny winged friends.

Plus, the largest basin is only 3 inches deep, so you can fill it with rocks and pebbles to make it safe and shallow enough for the little hummers.

Moreover, this birdbath is made with resin which is relatively lightweight yet more durable than plastic or clay. This will be helpful when you have to move it around due to rain, renovations, or just because the birds like it better elsewhere!

The material is safe for hummingbirds and does not rust. Also, algae don't stick to its surface, so you won’t have to put in a lot of time and effort into cleaning it.

Pros

  • Made from durable and easy to clean resin material; non-toxic for birds
  • 3-tier design provides plenty of room
  • Offers good value and functionality

Cons

  • It might blow over due to strong winds
  • The length of the electric cord is relatively short

Takeaway

If you're looking for a functional yet stylish hummingbird bird bath fountain that will add to your garden's beauty without breaking your bank, the Nova Microdermabrasion 3-Tier Fountain is a great choice.

2. Burley Clay Hummingbird Bird Bath Set – Most Elegant

Burley Clay Hummingbird Bird Bath Set

The Burley Clay Hummingbird Bird Bath Set is another top-notch hummingbird bath recommended by many avid bird enthusiasts. It features a classical shape and hand-painted decor, which will add a look of timeless elegance to your backyard.

I particularly like this hummingbird birdbath because it comes in a two-piece set: a mushroom stem-like base and a locking flat bowl that resembles an overturned cap.

You can easily lock-in this set into place.

I also found it convenient to disassemble the parts for cleaning purposes.

Another great feature of this hummingbird bird bath is that the bowl is coated from the inside, making it resistant to algae, hence easy to clean. Plus, who can ignore the lively color and the floral patterns with miniature hummingbirds on the base? Delightful!

Since the birdbath is made of clay, it keeps the water cool even on hot days. However, clay is prone to breakage; you’ll have to be very careful while assembling/disassembling this birdbath and moving it around.

Pros

  • Easy to assemble/separate and clean the bowl
  • Made from clay which keeps the water cool
  • It has the perfect bowl depth for hummingbirds

Cons

  • Prone to cracks and breakage; need to be super vigilant when handling it
  • The bowl is not entirely attached to the base as the connecting hawks are relatively small

Takeaway

The Burley Clay Bird Bath is excellent in terms of functionality and will give your backyard a beautiful touch. The disadvantages of clay might be a dealbreaker for some, but I was okay with overlooking them due to the bath's unique, quaint design.

3. Peaktop Glazed Pot Floor Foundation – Most Stylish

Peaktop Pot Fountains, 17" Height, Red

The Peaktop Glazed Pot Floor Foundation is a classic yet modern hummingbird bird bath people can easily confuse for a decorative pot (at least I did). It features a vessel-like design with lids that serve as the basin for the birds.

Like the Burley Clay Hummingbird Bird Bath Set, this birdbath also comes in two pieces, and I, for one, didn't face any difficulty in assembling them.

It has two versions; with and without LED lights. I tried the latter and was amazed by the beautiful effect of the LED lights. Four of them are around the water spout and one at the bottom.

This pot is fully glazed with polyresin, which makes it a winner for me. It’s shiny during the day and even more striking at night, enhanced by the LED lights. The coating also makes it very easy to get rid of moss and fungi.

The depth of the basin is perfect for little hummers. Plus, the fountain has a soothing sound that attracts birds and is music to human ears.

The only factor that put me off was that there’s no direct water supply to the pot; you’ll have to fill it by yourself via a small hole which can be time-consuming.

Pros

  • Stylish design with LED lights
  • Polyresin glazing makes it shiny and easy to clean
  • It can be used as both a decorative pot and birdbath

Cons

  • No direct water supply to the pot; has to be filled manually via a tiny opening
  • One switch for both the fountain and lights

Takeaway

Not only is this an excellent rendezvous spot for the birds, but you can use this insanely gorgeous birdbath for decoration purposes both indoor and outdoor. It's the perfect choice for those who don't mind spending a few minutes every day filling water for the small birdies.

4. Stokes Select Drink’N’Bathe Feeder – Best Value

Stokes Select Drink'N'Bathe Water Feeder, 64 fl oz Capacity

If you're looking for a two-in-one birdbath and feeder, then the Stokes Select Drink’N’Bathe Water Feeder is the ideal choice. It's quite simple but does the job well. That's what ultimately matters, right?

This isn't like the other hummingbird baths on the list. Its standout feature is that it doesn't stand but instead hangs off the ground. That is great if you have a mischievous cat who likes to hunt small birds.

You can hang it anywhere in your backyard and move it around whenever you want.

In my opinion, the best thing about this feeder-cum-bird bath is the transparent water bottle with a 1.8-liter capacity. It can prevent water evaporation on hot, sunny days, which means that you’ll have to replenish the water every two or three days instead of doing it daily.

It also has a tray beneath that’s laminated with non-slip material. Even though it isn’t sizable, it can hold varying water levels and is large enough for the little hummers.

The only problem I faced when using this birdbath was that since the bottle doesn’t have ventilation, it led to algae growth inside when I left it in the sun for four or five days. This means that you'll need to sanitize it more frequently.

Pros

  • Simple yet fully functional design
  • Can be easily hung anywhere in the backyard
  • Can hold up to 1.8L of water

Cons

  • The bath tray is sufficient for small birds only
  • Algae may grow inside the bottle

Takeaway

This Stokes Select Drink’N’Bathe Water Feeder is a fantastic choice for those who want a no-mess, functional yet straightforward hummingbird birdbath. It does have some drawbacks but is easy to use and also very practical.

5. Bits & Pieces Petal Flower Bird Bath – Best Budget Buy

Bits and Pieces - Hanging Flower Petal Birdbath - Glass Flower Hanging Birdbath and Feeder - Outdoor Décor

This hanging Bits & Pieces Petal Flower Bird Bath features a simplistic design, making it a low-maintenance ornament. For some people, it might only be a ceramic bowl with a showy flower petal painting hung by a chain, but, in reality, it is more than that.

This bowl doubles as a hummingbird feeder and birdbath, with the added benefit of being an elegant decorative piece for your backyard.

Since it’s a hanging bowl, it’s also comparatively safer than ground baths or hummingbird bath fountains that are prone to vicious kitty attacks.

What I particularly like about this bowl is its shallow depth that works like magic for hummingbirds. It’s only 8 inches deep and has a base that’s wide enough even for bigger birds, such as sparrows and goldfinch.

Since the base is made of glass, it's effortless to clean as well; you just need to wipe it with a soft cloth.

However, the bowl is fragile and might break or crack easily, meaning you’ll have to be careful in handling it. Avoid cleaning it with metal or any other rough sponges as it may leave scratches on the surface.

Since it’s lightweight, there’s a chance that it might blow over due to strong winds.

Pros

  • Attractive and functional design
  • Quite affordable as compared to other options
  • Easy to clean

Cons

  • Open surface, so water dries up fast
  • Fragile; prone to breakage and cracks

Takeaway

If you want a simple, low-maintenance birdbath and don't mind refilling it now and then during a day, then this is the right choice for you.

Plus, even if it doesn't work as a birdbath, you can toss some seeds in it and use it as a feeder. Or, if the birds don’t take a liking to it, you can simply leave it hanging out since it looks great!

Factors To Consider When Buying Hummingbird Bird Bath

Since there are hardly any solar birdbaths made specifically for hummingbirds, you might find it challenging to choose one for your backyard.

To help you out, I’ve made a list of things you should look for in the ideal hummingbird bird bath:

Basin Depth

Hummingbirds are minuscule and fragile. They need a place to perch and drink water without immersing themselves in it fully as they can drown.

Hence, you should look for a birdbath with a shallow depth of 3 to 3.5 centimeters. Ensure it's shallow along the rim, so the little hummers have a safe place to land on. If it isn't, you might have to throw some pebbles to make a landing area.

Bath Design

The design you opt for depends on where you want to place your birdbath.

For instance, if you have a cat in your home, you should consider getting a hanging bird bath as a ground or fountain bath can put the hummingbirds' lives at risk. But if you want to place the bath under the sunlight in your backyard, then you'd be better off with a stone pedestal.

Water Movement And Sound

Birds like to preen in moving water with a fine spray and a lively sound.

This means that you should ideally go for hummingbird bird bath fountains as this will attract more hummingbirds to your garden. Moving water also prevents algae growth, which is a plus. However, this doesn't make birdbaths with steady water an inferior option.

Ease Of Cleaning

The ease of cleaning plays a crucial role when selecting a hummingbird birdbath. You should opt for practical designs that are easy to maintain as that’s what matters in the long-term.

Cleaning a birdbath shouldn't consume a lot of your time and effort. Sure, those detailed carvings and pretty designs might look aesthetically pleasing, but they can be a hassle when it comes to scrubbing off the dirt.

Price

Contrary to popular belief, a good-quality bird bath heater isn't always expensive (and vice versa). Yes, a high-end bird bath may add to your backyard's beauty, but you need to ask yourself if it’s worth investing in.

A $20 hummingbird birdbath can do the job just as well as its expensive counterpart. In the end, it all depends on your personal preference.

What Type Of Bird Baths Do Hummingbirds Like?

If you’re buying a hummingbird bird bath for the first time, you might be wondering what types of water features hummingbirds want.

As we mentioned earlier, birds–particularly hummingbirds–like moving and shallow water.

They enjoy flying through showering water and dipping down into a fountain with a gentle spray, as seen in this video:

The depth of the water is also an essential factor. For hummingbirds to safely land and splash playfully in the water, it should be very shallow.

Your water fountain for hummingbirds should have a depth of 1.5 centimeters for the landing area and 3 to 3.5 centimeters basin depth.

The Bottom Line

Based on my analysis, I believe that the Nova Microdermabrasion 3-Tier Fountain is the best bird bath for hummingbirds, perfect for those who want an ergonomic and functional birdbath.

This hummingbird fountain has three tiers, allowing for more space for the birds, along with a steady spray to lift their spirits and make them loyal visitors.

However, if you are looking for something practical yet affordable, you should consider the Stokes Select Drink’N’Bathe Water Feeder, a fantastic value-for-money option.

We hope our hummingbird bird bath review helps you find the right bath for your little friends!
